History
During 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment. During 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years. At present, SMAG is the market leader in the world, using grabs for waste disposal, global cargo handling applications and agriculture.
